House Bill 405 was a bill clarifying local municipality functions. It was sent to the governor’s desk with widespread support. Using his amendatory veto, Governor Bullock inserted the language from Senate Bill 343, allowing municipalities to raise their resort tax rates by 4%. The vote was on whether to reject this amendment. The Montana House passed the amended version. The Montana Senate rejected the amendment, killing the proposed amendment. House Bill 405 went on to receive the governor’s signature without the resort tax language.
